The Business Potential
With an annual GDP growth of between 6 and 11%, the countries in Southeast Asia faces enormous challenges in providing enough energy to fuel the increased demand for electric power and transportation fuel.
It is estimated that the current energy demand of 340 mtoe (million tonnes of oil equivalent) in 2008 will increase to 525 mtoe by 2020, an increase of 55%. There are still today in 2008, an estimated 200 million people in the region that does not have electricity.
However with raising costs of energy from traditional resources and growing awareness of the environmental impact, using fossil fuels, governments and industries are facing massive challanges in finding alternative energy solutions.
These challenges offers abundant opportunities for companies providing solutions for energy efficiency, cleaner fossil fuel, renewable energy and waste management.
